London is home to many tourist attractions that bring around 30 million visitors to the capital each year. The city is renowned for its famous landmarks, museums and buildings. However, this also means that tourists have big expectations when they arrive and these are not always met, meaning some leave disappointed.
This is the case all over the world, with some famous attractions having their reputation proceed them to the point were seeing them is bound to create a feeling of anticipointment. Research from MrQ has shown that this phenomenon has befallen many of the world’s most well known tourist spots including a number from the UK.
London has two spots on the top list for most complained attractions, which was created by ranking each by Tripadvisor reviews and the percentage of one and two star reviews they received.

Stonehenge was the most complained about tourist spot in the UK however both Big Ben and Buckingham Palace also made the global top 10. Big Ben has disappointed many visitors hoping to get a glimpse of the world famous clock face over the past 4 years.
Many have voiced frustration that they weren’t aware the clock tower was undergoing renovations, which left many disappointed. The Elizabeth Tower, or Big Ben, was released from its scaffolding in April and can now be viewed by visitors to London.
One negative reviewer said: “There are people who think of Big Ben in grand terms. It is a tower with a clock. Security people with guns are rude.”
Another said: “Not happy, every time been to London why is it always under construction. not great. looks awful. plus not that big.”
Despite the negative reviews, the iconic clock has overwhelmingly positive reviews. A visitor said: “I can’t come to London without coming to see the Houses of Parliament and this incredible, British icon.”
Buckingham Palace also made the list. The royal residence snuck onto the list, which took the 10th spot on the list. One negative review said: “Waste of money, most of the garden roped off, extra to see the rose garden. I would not recommend this experience, more time is spent in the queue getting through security!”
However again, the Palace has an overall 4.5 star rating on Tripadvisor, so it can’t be all bad. Meanwhile, the British Museum was one of three attractions in the UK to make the top 10 least complained about attractions.
The iconic museum is currently running an exhibition on Stonehenge until July 17 which promises to reveal the “secrets of Stonehenge”. Others one the list includes Tower Bridge and Trafalgar Square.
