    Sharing has come to camping as families seek out affordable holiday options

    Camping is one of the last permitted ways for Canadians to get out of the house safely. Outdoorsy/Courtesy of manufacturer Not owning a camping trailer or recreational vehicle (RV), we pitched our little family tent on the gravel, and went for a wander around the campsite. Our neighbour had a slightly more luxurious setup, with a Hyundai Santa Fe towing a nuCamp Tab teardrop trailer, which comes with everything, including the kitchen sink. It looked appealing, so I asked: How long had they owned it, and how much was it? Their answers were: “We don’t own it,” and “Surprisingly affordable.”

    Seven San Diego-area families evacuated from Afghanistan after summer trip abroad

    Seven San Diego-area families that had been stranded in Afghanistan amid the Taliban takeover have now been evacuated, with one family still stuck in the country, according to officials from the local California school district.  The Associated Press first reported Monday that six families from the Cajon Valley Union School District had safely made it out. Superintendent David Miyashiro confirmed to The Hill Wednesday that the total number increased to seven.  The superintendent said that according to the school district’s Family and Community Liaisons department, four families “have safely returned to Cajon Valley,” with two additional families in the U.S.

    4 California Families Remain Stuck in Afghanistan After Summer Vacation, 2 Back in U.S.

    Four California families remain stuck in Afghanistan after visiting relatives in the country during their summer vacations, while two families have made it back to the U.S., officials said Thursday. The families are all from El Cajon, a suburb east of San Diego, which has a large refugee population. Many of the families had gone to Afghanistan so the children could see their grandparents in May and early June, before the Taliban took over the government.     Freedom band families out $100K after Hawaii trip canceled amid COVID worries

    The cancellation of a Freedom High School band trip to Hawaii’s left students heartbroken and families out more than $100,000. About 10 parents and students attended Monday night’s Bethlehem Area School Board meeting to urge the school district to reconsider the decision to cancel a December trip to Pearl Harbor amid coronavirus concerns. The pandemic already led the trip to be postponed once. Parents are asking the district to reimburse them the cost of their lost deposit if the district won’t revisit the cancellation.
